Flight Paths - a networked novel, by Kate Pullinger, Chris Joseph, and you
Flight Paths: A Networked Novel
http://www.flightpaths.net
The car park of Sainsbury’s supermarket in Richmond, southwest London, lies directly beneath one of the main flight paths into Heathrow Airport. Over the last decade, on at least five separate occasions, the bodies of young men have fallen from the sky and landed on or near this car park. All these men were stowaways on flights from the Indian subcontinent who had believed that they could find a way into the cargo hold of an airplane by climbing up into the airplane wheel shaft. No one can survive this journey.
“Flight Paths: a networked novel” seeks to explore what happens when lives collide – an airplane stowaway and the woman who witnesses his fall to earth. This project will tell their stories; it will be a work of digital fiction, a networked book, created on and through the internet. Writers Kate Pullinger (http://www.katepullinger.com) and Chris Joseph (http://www.chrisjoseph.org) encourage you to contribute stories, images, sounds, memories, and ideas to this project.
Visit http://www.flightpaths.net to participate in a new kind of writing project that explores the themes of asylum and immigration, open to everyone, online.

Bluedolph by Edward Picot
“Bluedolph the blue-nosed reindeer
Didn’t have a shiny nose…”
A mildly anti-festive animated parable about one of the less successful reindeers. In Flash, with sound (and sprigs of holly). Happy Christmas!

The Creativity Conversations are organized by Creativity East Midlands (CREEM) - http://creem.dmu.ac.uk/
CREEM is a network of researchers and practitioners based in the Institute of Creative Technologies at De Montfort University but extending into the wider community. CREEM network participants come from a wide range of disciplines but share a common interest in creativity and innovation. We are investigating the terms used to describe creativity and innovation with the aim of developing a common language that works across different disciplines, and are looking at how creativity can enhance innovative practice.
Creativity Conversations are supported by NLab - www.narrativelab.org
CREEM is funded by AHRC, Arts Council England, DTI and ESRC through the Nature of Creativity scheme.

Intellectual Property for Musicians
Wednesday 23 January, 5 – 7:30pm, Institute of Creative Technologies (IOCT), De Montfort University, Leicester.
As the music industry develops new methods of marketing to customers and moves across an increasing number of media platforms, including digital, the issue of copyright remains as crucial as ever. In this new environment, it is important to be aware not only of your legal rights, but also of the different types of deal with which you can licence and assign the copyright in your work, whatever the media, and how contingency planning can help you to control the use of your work more easily. Led by expert speakers from Berryman LLP (Nottingham) this seminar will be of relevance to those composing music for the videogame and ring-tone industries, in addition to traditional composers.
Organiser: ProspectIP in conjunction with Creative Leicestershire. There is no charge for this event. To book a place, please call 0116 207 8931 or email jgill@dmu.ac.uk.

New for SIGGRAPH 2008
*************************************
General Submission Preparation
*************************************
We have designed the submission process to save you time, dissolve boundaries among traditional programs and afford you the best possible jury evaluation. You can now describe your work once and propose that it be evaluated for multiple presentation formats.
In addition to the typical materials that make up a submission, you must craft and classify your submission in three ways.
1. Submission Areas as defined by our conference themes
2. Submission Categories
3. Presentation Formats
*** Submission Areas *** are themes of high impact to community audiences. Important for SIGGRAPH 2008 are: Complexity and Accessibility, Future History, Global Responsibility, Impact on Society, Professional Development and Education, SIGGRAPH Core, Slow Art, Computer Animation Festival.
For in-depth descriptions of each of these areas follow the right sidebar links on this page http://www.siggraph.org/s2008/submissions/
*** Submission Categories *** will aid in the jury process and help us to cluster your contributions with other similar proposals for best possible evaluation.
For category definitions read here http://www.siggraph.org/s2008/submissions/juried/categories.php
*** Presentation Formats *** allow you to identify the most relevant channels for bringing accepted content to the SIGGRAPH audience. We encourage you to specify as many formats as are appropriate for a given submission.
For presentation format details read here
