CREEM Creativity Workshops: What is Creativity? An exploration of definitions, language, and associated terms

Wednesday 17th October, 10.00-12.00pm
at the IOCT

Introduction
The term creativity means different things to different people. To some it is deeply personal, to others a product of environments. What is its relationship to innovation, to design?

This workshop is an attempt to explore these issues so that we can begin to develop a better understanding of our perceptions of creativity and its language. We will work towards a shared definition of creativity from different viewpoints and perspectives.

International Poetry Bienniale 2009, Media Poetry competition - deadline 31 December 2008

The Paris-based International Poetry Bienniale has announced a media poetry competition to be judged by luminaries in digital poetics. The prize is an expense-paid trip to the Poetry Biennale in Paris.

For its tenth edition (May 2009), the International Poetry Biennial is pleased to announce an International Media Poetry Contest.

Works considered “media poetry” are those that place contemporary technologies at the service of poetry, be it within the framework of a performance or in that of a recorded and projectable work. Among the many forms accepted are included videopoetry, digital poetry, multimedia poetry, sound poetry, interactive poetry, and poetic installations in physical space or on the Internet. Works that illustrate a poem will not be considered (these are works that use sound or images to represent or complement a poem, for example). There are no restrictions regarding the form or content of the media poems submitted.

Work presented shall not exceed 15 minutes and can be presented in the form CD, DVD, or on the Internet.

Application: Candidates willing to submit their work to the International of Media Poetry Contest shall express their intention via email before December 31st, 2007. To do so they shall write an email to: direction@biennaledespoetes.fr

The works submitted shall arrive at the Poetry Biennial’s office (11 rue Ferdinand Roussel 94200 Ivry-sur-Seine France) before December 31st, 2008. If the work is online, the Internet address shall arrive via email before this date.

A jury made up of eleven international artists (see list below) will examine the works and will allot the Media Poetry Prize 2009. The prize will be given to the winner during a special ceremony to be realized during the Poetry Biennial.

The prize winner will choose between being invited to Paris for one week with all expenses paid during the Poetry Biennial or the equivalent amount in cash.

Participation in the contest automatically authorizes the Biennial to publicly exhibit submitted works. Unless otherwise specified, the copyright of the works remains with the artists.

Machinima Festival 2007 starts Friday 12th October at DMU, Leicester

Machinima Festival 2007 in Second Life

Europe’s first ever Machinima Festival begins at DMU tomorrow, runs until Sunday, and should be a fascinating event. The festival website is at www.machinimaeurope.co.uk, and has details on all the things taking place over the three days, as well as explanations of what Machinima is and how to make it.

The poster above is from the Festival’s presence in Second Life (naturally!) - so if you aren’t able to attend the real festival you can still experience it virtually. If you are a Second Lifer visit HatHead II (245, 159, 313).

The main presentations and panel discussions (see the pdf programme for details) will also be streamed live at www.ioct.dmu.ac.uk/machinima.html .

You can also get involved via the Facebook group ‘machinima festival Europe 07’, or view event photos on Flickr at www.flickr.com/photos/machinimaeurope/.

Hope to see you there!

Digital Broadway Artist Talk with Nicky Peacock - Nottingham, 19 October 2007, 6.30pm

19 October 2007
6:30 pmto7:30 pm

Digital Broadway Artist Talk with Nicky Peacock

Broadway, Studio

Nicky Peacock will hold a presentation about her work and her commission for Digital Broadway’s Bar Screen.

GOINGS ON

BAR SCREEN
MON 1 – WED 31 OCT

Goings On is a study of uncanny, curious and downright sinister occurrences affecting ordinary people in ordinary homes.

The investigation, conducted by a mythical housewife, sets out to document evidence of the playful poltergeists, possessed pre-teens and provincial witches inhabiting England’s green and pleasant land.

Nicky Peacock is a story teller; part hermit, part suburban explorer.

Digital Broadway have commissioned Nicky to produce a collection of photographic images to haunt the Bar Screen throughout the month of October.

Nicky is a visual artist and writer with a background in punk rock and chronic tonsillitis. Nicky’s photography work has been exhibited and published nationwide.

She is currently working as a designer on an animated feature film, producing an illustrated journal and is the artist-in-residence for implausibly dreamy fashion magazine Lula.
