Wednesday 12th September sees the start of a weekly series of informal discussion sessions held at the IOCT that will be focussing on topics within the areas of creativity, innovation, and transdisciplinary work. They will run every Wednesday to the end of November from 17.30 to 18.30. Each session will be led by two people with a particular relevance to the topic.

The series kicks off on Wednesday with Andrew Hugill (Director of the IOCT) talking to Howard Rheingold on the topic of tools for collaboration. They will be looking particularly at transdisciplinary collaboration and how this can be aided. Entry is free, though you are recommend to reserve a place to avoid disappointment. JavaMuseum- Forum for Internet Technology in Contemporary Art www.javamuseum.org is looking for Internet based art (netart) for a series of features starting in November 2007 on occasion of NewMediaFest2007.

In this framework, the first of these features will become the third exhibition component besides the shows -”Seven Ways for Saying Internet with Net Art” curated by Elena Julia Rossi (Rome), who is, among others, also responsable for the netart shows at
MAXXI - National Museum of 21st Century Rome/Italy - and “a+b=ba? art +blog=blogart?”

JavaMuseum, founded in 2000 as a virtual museum, is one of the relevant platforms for Internet based art on the net. Under the direction of Wilfried Agricola de Cologne, JavaMuseum realised 18 showcases and competitions of netart in a global context between 2001 and 2005 and is hosting a comprehensive collection of netart from the years 2000-2004 including more than 350 artists.

In 2006 and 2007, JavaMuseum was undergoing a restructuration phase and launched JIP - JavaMuseum Interview Project - http://jip.javamuseum.org, which will contain more than 100 interviews by professionals in the field of art and New Media. after its relaunch in November 2007.

JavaMuseum is looking for netart projects, which are completed after 1 January 2004 and not part of JavaMuseum, yet, max. 5 project proposals can be submitted.

The National Film Board of Canada (NFB) and the Sheffield International Documentary Festival are pleased to issue a call for proposals for a new cross-media competition called the CROSS-MEDIA CHALLENGE.

The CROSS-MEDIA CHALLENGE is a co-production competition for innovative, interactive, socially engaged content with applications for mobile and broadband. It will award one producer a $10,500CAD/£5,000 co-production development deal with the NFB.

ABOUT THE CHALLENGE
Inspired by the NFB’s legendary Challenge for Change program of community filmmaking, today’s NFB is adapting the adage “think globally, act locally” to develop socially engaged media projects relating to issues such as the protection of the environment, health care, human rights, poverty and violence against women.

How can we inspire an exchange of story-telling practices among diverse communities? How can we use media creatively to foster an international dialogue on issues that have local roots? How can we unleash the creative talents of marginal voices and communities and make them heard?

We are interested in projects that use the versatility, mobility and borderless nature of new platforms to enable communities to talk to each other. Projects must be documentary based.

Eligible projects must be cross-platform and multi-platform involving the best features of each medium to ensure maximum audience participation. Projects should take full advantage of the range of new platforms, with particular emphasis on interactive, mobile and on-line. Projects must demonstrate direct contact and interaction with communities as part of the development plan.

Disrupting Narratives was held at the Tate Modern on July 13th, and had some fascinating presentations and discussion by Mark Amerika, Alex Galloway, Paul Sermon, Kate Rich, Kelli Dipple, Andrea Zapp and Kate Southworth.
