No commentsAND THEN/somedancers karaoke competition - deadline 20 June 2007
### AND THEN/somedancers karaoke competition
### AND THEN is a wonderful literary magazine based in New York but with content from all over the world
### The current edition has a little collaboration in it - a song with lyrics by Robert Roth and Carletta Joy Walker and music by Michael Szpakowski
### On this site there is a shockwave movie with a performance of the song and a karaoke backing ( You can toggle between the two with the ’song/karaoke’ button provided. Both are started by pressing the triangular ‘play’ button bottom left. You will need the shockwave plug in for your browser )
### You are invited to do one of two things:
*****(1) Record yourself ( hints for doing this ) or a friend or you & a friend or your hockey team or whatever singing the song to the karaoke backing
*****(2) Transform the song in some way - new lyrics, visuals, as you like really - then do step (1) or record it in some other way, video, audio, whatever…
****THEN…send your finished piece (or a link where I can grab it) to karaoke@somedancersandmusicians.com to be posted on this page.. forever ( if you’re mailing & it’s a big file please mail me first!).
### The deadline is June 20th, although of course if a particularly brilliant one appears soon afterwards we will cheat. The result will be announced as soon after that as we can reasonably manage.

1 commentEast Midlands rural arts and culture website launched
Culture East Midlands, the Regional Cultural Consortia for the East Midlands has recently launched a new website supporting rural arts and culture in the East Midlands.
The website http://www.ruralculture-em.org is now live to the public.
The site is there to support the work of people developing cultural activity in rural areas and showcase projects from across the region. The site provides clear information on training and funding opportunities, news and events and signposts organisations that support cultural activity. Detailed case studies from some successful and pioneering projects across the East Midlands are available to download to inform and hopefully inspire more cultural projects in rural areas.
We are still in the process of developing the site’s content so any thoughts you might have when you visit, you can send to us via the contact form on the site, or email to mailto:news@ruralculture-em.org
Isolation is a common aspect of rural life and this site aims to overcome some of those communication barriers by providing an
appropriate and accessible service to those working in culture in the rural East Midlands.

Artist Talk with Ali Zaidi director of motiroti
Saturday 19 May, 2pm - Free
motiroti is a London based international arts organisation that create and produce original works combining new media, visual and performing arts for intimate as well as public spaces. Their multi-layered projects are led by participation and collaboration.
Join motiroti’s artistic director Ali Zaidi for a talk about the company, the ‘cutout’ installation (now showing at The City Gallery) and his multi-disciplinary, cross cultural practise.
Ali Zaidi co-founded motiroti with Keith Khan in 1996, and is now the company’s main creative drive. Indian by birth, Pakistani by migration and British by chance. These cultural paradoxes contribute to Zaidi’s creative speculation around issues of identity and representation. His background in graphic design, advertising and photography, as well as education, evolved into sumptuous expression of concepts rather than commercial products. Working across diverse art forms, including film, live art, installation and digital technologies, Zaidi creates fresh participatory experiences for new audiences. Zaidi’s work is reflected in all motiroti’s production.
However, he feels particularly close to recent video-triptych cutout. The video unfolds a dialogue between the urban fabric and new cultural influences, and plays with the private sphere, the expression of the human body and public space.
The talk is free but booking is essential, you can book you place by calling The City Gallery sales and information desk on 0116 223 2060.
