International and award winning artists igloo create intermedia artworks, led by Ruth Gibson & Bruno Martelli.
‘In the mid-sixties, Fluxus artists began using the term ‘intermedia’ to describe work that was ….composed of multiple media. The term highlights the intersection of artistic genres and has gradually emphasized performative work and projects that employ new technologies.’
[Marisa Olson - Rhizome.org]
igloo projects are created with teams of highly skilled practitioners drawn primarily from performance, music, design, architecture, costume, computer science and technology backgrounds. Their work combines film, video, motion capture technology, music and performance with digital technology. The work is developed in a variety of formats and made for distribution across a range of platforms, including gallery installation, internet sites, large and small scale performance and Cd Rom.

*DIGITAL ART IN THE CONTEMPORARY ART CONTEXT *
If you are a digital artist wishing to present work in the contemporary art context, you face some practical, cultural and theoretical hurdles. In this talk I’ll discuss some of these challenges, drawing on lessons I’ve learned as a computer scientist studying on the Goldsmiths MFA in Fine Art program. I’ll show work I’ve done as part of the program and talk about common responses. My goal is to start a discussion about useful strategies for contemporary artists using digital media.
JON MEYER is a digital artist, working in London and New York. Meyer received a B.A. in Artificial Intelligence from Sussex University and an M.S. in Computer Science from New York University. His artwork has been in group shows in New York City, Seattle, Los Angeles and Osaka, including the SIGGRAPH 2005. He is currently in the final year of his M.F.A in Fine Art at Goldsmiths College. Jon has over fifteen years of experience in the software industry, specializing in computer graphics, animation, and user interfaces. He worked as a Program Manager on the Sparkle team at Microsoft and as a Research Scientist at New York University’s Media Research Laboratory. Jon has taught multimedia at NYU and at the Surrey Institute of Art and Design.

Working Title: Redesign - deadline 1 April 2007
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: WORKING TITLE:REDESIGN
The use of particular design elements within built environments, both private and public, interior and exterior, have the power to modify our attentions and control human behaviour.
Whether they are corporate boardrooms, over illuminated mega stores, government service buildings, fitness centres…, intentional decisions are made in order to summon very particular and controlled reactions from the users.
With this call for submissions we are interested in exploring the intentional use of design elements found within built environments such as, spaces of leisure, work environments, sites of power and consumption, public spaces……. How are these elements utilized to affect the psychology of the user? By using these particular design elements, what are some of the desired outcomes in human responses? How can existing spaces be re-designed or what new spaces can be created?
As always, TFG encourages artists, architects designers and activists to apply. We will accept proposals in all forms of media.
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSIONS IS APRIL 1, 2007

No commentsinformation as material - Sarah Jacobs event, London, Thursday 8th February, 6pm
| 8 February 2007 | ||
| 6:00 pm | to | 8:00 pm |
information as material
www.informationasmaterial.com
information as material is proud to present Sarah Jacobs’ Deciphering Human Chromosome 16: Index to the Report ISBN 978-0-9553092-2-9 and the simultaneous republication of the revised and expanded Deciphering Human Chromosome 16: We Report Here.
The books use text in a visual way to document the ethical, economic, political and philosophical polemics associated with mapping the human genome.
The Report is an ebook which contains links to over 250 websites collected in the months following publication in the journal Nature of “The sequence and analysis of duplication-rich human chromosome 16â€*. Its contents change over time as the websites change, migrate or disappear. It is available as a free download from www.informationasmaterial.com (after 8 February) or from www.bookartbookshop.com .
The Index sets fragments collected from the websites against the background of the earlier draft sequence originally published by Project Gutenberg.
The solid physicality of the Index contrasts with the ever changing Report but paradoxically vagaries of the printing process ensure that each copy of the Index is unique.
=============================
information as material was established in 2002 to publish work by artists who use extant material — selecting it and reframing it to generate new meanings — and who, in doing so, disrupt the existing order of things.
Copies of Deciphering Human Chromosome 16: Index to the Report can be purchased from bookartbookshop, Cornerhouse and good bookshops online and everywhere. Perfect bound. 552 pages. 246 x 189. ISBN 978-0-9553092-2-9. Recommended retail price £13.99/$25.
