Hi Dawn,

thanks! I was lucky enough to be at Tools of Change this year, and thought it was a great conference and very well organised. I definitely recommend it to those with any interest in digital publishing and all its possibilities. Hoping I can get to NYC in Feb!

Hey Chris,
Nice piece. The conference you're referring to where Manolis presented his digital book ideas was called Tools of Change and will be happening again in NYC in February. Thought you and your readers might like to know!

Hi Christine,

a big flat screen definitely helps. A comfortable computer chair is also a bonus. I certainly agree that the shorter chunks of text are generally fine to read on a screen, it's the novel and thesis writers/readers who complain most about on-screen reading.

I also suspect that on-screen reading is more problematic for people with bad eyesight (like myself)... there can be strange glare and blur effects caused by staring too long with contact lenses, for example. Or maybe I should just clean them more often?

cheers,
chris

Hi Chris,

I may be a weirdo but I actually love reading off the screen. Admittedly I haven't screen-read any straight novels, but short stories, poetry, articles, blogs, elit, ebooks, etc. I've got a nice big flat screen, so that helps, but I really like having everything at my fingertips.

Of course I still read and love print, but I think I've almost got to the point where I'm not really conscious of whether I'm reading from the page or screen, I'm just reading.
