I create electronic literature, multimedia and digital art, which may include text, images and video, sound and reader/viewer participation.

The Electronic Literature Organization have a useful definition of e-lit:

…works with important literary aspects that take advantage of the capabilities and contexts provided by the stand-alone or networked computer.

Some of my ongoing projects include:

  • Inanimate Alice, a series of multimedia stories created with novelist Kate Pullinger
  • Flight Paths, a ‘networked novel’ created with Kate Pullinger and online collaborators, supported by the Arts Council England
  • remixworx, a collaborative digital remixing community
  • 391.org – a post-dada magazine and artist network

Past projects include:

  • NRG, a bicycle-powered interactive multimedia installation around the themes of sustainable energy, supported by Arts Council England and the Institute of Creative Technologies at De Montfort University, Leicester, UK
  • The Breathing Wall, a digital novel that responds to the reader’s breathing rate, created with Kate Pullinger and Stefan Schemat
  • Animalamina, an A-Z collection of multimedia animal poetry for children supported by Canada Council for the Arts
