CYNETart_08 12th Festival of computer-based art – deadline 22 March 2008

International Call for Entries CYNETart-competition:
Deadline for submissions: 22nd March 2008
Festival period 30th October until 09th November 2008, Festival Theatre Hellerau
Awards Ceremony: 30th October 2008, Festival Theatre Hellerau

TMA Hellerau hosts this international competition of CYNETart, inviting artists and art groups to present their projects, every two years. They can apply with projects that fully utilise digital technologies in their conceptual, creative and performing processes, thereby opening up opportunities for digital performance and their relationship to factors such as time, space, physical presence and social encounters. An international jury with representatives from well-established media culture institutions and experienced scientists with a background in media art history will decide about the winner of the CYNETart-award and the sponsorship award. It will also decide on the award of the artist-in-residence-scholarship funded by the Ministry of Culture. On the occasion of the Chess Olympiad 2008 in Dresden (12th until 25th November 2008) we will together with Zentrum Mikroelektronik Dresden AG (ZMD) tender a so-called chess-media-art-award for the amount of €5.000 for the first time.

The awards go to realised works of art. The sponsorship award of the Saxon Ministry of Science and the Fine Arts is designed to support a project realisation. The realised project will be presented at CYNETart 2009.

The award-winning entries will be shown at the CYNETart_08 festival (30th October until 9th November 2008), which means that a presentation of the work of art should be possible. The organiser will try to present all acknowledgements to the audience of CYNETart. Furthermore the organiser will do a selection of entries to be presented. This also applies to the possible submission of a project for the transNATURALE festival (29th until 31st August 2008). The presentation of a chess-media-award will be part of the Chess Olympiad Dresden 2008 (12th until 25th November 2008). All award-winning works shown at CYNETart will also be included and illustrated in the catalogue, published on the occasion of the festival.

Digital Broadway Rock/Paper/Scissors – Nottingham, 16-17 January 2008

R.P.S. (Reaux Sham Beaux)

As part of the Digital Broadway Programme 2008, Graham Elstone has been commissioned to produce a piece of video art for the Glass Screens on the front of Broadway Media Centre, Nottingham. The proposal he has made is to re-create an ongoing game of Rock, Paper, Scissors, played by two large hands that confront each other and ‘do battle’ on the two projection surfaces, see the above illustration as an example.

We would like to invite all interested parties to become involved in the project by coming to the Studio at Broadway next Wednesday or Thursday (16th and 17th January), between 10.30 and 4.30, to take part in the filming process by playing the game and being filmed, hands and bit of arm only, the footage will then be edited and become part of the projected work, which opens on the 1st February.

The filming shouldn’t take too long, 15 – 20 minutes, so hopefully you can become part of this artwork!

R.P.S. is now an internationally competed event with a World Championship, sponsored by Bud, each year in Canada. We hope to create a week of activity to run alongside the theme of R.P.S. including a showing of a documentary film about the World Championships, and perhaps Nottingham’s first mini tournament.

We look forward to seeing you for the filming and at future events.

Graham Elstone

2nd Inclusiva-net Meeting: Digital Networks and Physical Space – deadline 30 January 2008

Medialab-Prado issues a call to participate in the Second Inclusiva-net Meeting: Digital Networks and Physical Space, directed by Juan Martín Prada, that will take place from 3 to 14 March 2008.

The purpose of this open participation meeting is to explore the relationship between digital networks and physical space: how new locative technologies are changing the way citizens perceive the physical and geographic space (cellphones, Google Earth, GPS…) and how these media are reorganizing civic communication and interaction (from “geobrowsers” to the Local Web 2.0 or the “hyperlocal” journalism).

The aim is to explore hoy we “tag the world” with new devices and how the digital and the physical world interact, creating new artistic tendencies as well as new kinds of human relations.

Through and open call, projects to be collaboratively developed during a production workshop and papers to be publicly presented will be selected.

Submission Deadline: 30th January 2008
Notification of Acceptance: 8th February 2008

[from Experimenta mailing list -
http://monaro.adc.rmit.edu.au/mailman/listinfo/experimenta]

There’s a lack of art/artist information on Wikipedia, and we’re often too busy to find the time to contribute. We’ll also add structural links to alumni, schools and categories like collective art groups, non profit orgs, etc.

Participants include:
Eyebeam Senior Fellows Steve Lambert and Michael Mandiberg; Marisa Olson, Bennett Williamson, Joe DelPesco aka Mr. Collective Foundation, and Jamie Wilkinson. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!

Location: ANYWHERE
